Columbus Arts Rising: How Young Creatives and FTLOD Dancers Thrive Together

Columbus, Ohio’s arts scene is blooming, and it’s not just the galleries and theaters buzzing with creativity. Across the city, young people are discovering their passion for performance, visual arts, and storytelling through vibrant youth programs, community revitalization efforts, and world-class cultural spaces. Here’s what makes Columbus a magnetic place for budding artists, and how students in FTLOD’s new dance season can be part of it:

Youth Arts & Community Programs

King Arts Complex offers award-winning arts education—dance, theater, music, and visual arts—for K–8 during out-of-school hours. Summer camps, winter/spring workshops, and recitals make this a creative cornerstone of the community.

The Wexner Center for the Arts invites teens into immersive “WexLabs”—hands-on studios and discussions facilitated by professional artists—alongside inclusive family events like YogArts and film festivals.

ARtsway, a free teen mural and tech program, melds creativity with digital design. Students leave with both public art and AR skills—and even a stipend.

Revitalized Cultural Hubs

Ohio Theatre and Lincoln Theatre, iconic downtown theaters, have been lovingly restored and anchor live performances—from ballet and symphony to jazz and Broadway shows.

Franklinton and the Discovery District are bustling with new performance spaces, galleries, murals, and arts-driven development—bringing interactive creativity directly onto city streets.

Community Theater & Performance

From Columbus Children’s Theatre to Short North Stage, MadLab, Ember Women’s Theatre, and Curtain Players, local theaters offer inclusive productions and training for youth and adults alike.

How FTLOD Fits In

At For the Love of Dance (FTLOD), our mission aligns perfectly with Columbus’s creative renaissance. Our Summer Weekend Workshops build early dance engagement, while Season 14 starting October 5, offers consistent training in ballet, hip-hop, tap, drama, contemporary, and tumbling. Students not only gain technique and confidence, but join a growing creative community.

Whether complemented by visual arts from King Arts, teen programs at Wex, or theater exposure downtown, FTLOD dancers benefit from a rich cultural ecosystem. It’s a circular support system: Columbus inspires our students, and they, in turn, perform, engage, and contribute to the city’s evolving arts identity.

Columbus’s flourishing arts landscape from youth camps to historic performance venues offers incredible opportunities for young artists to grow, connect, and shine.

FTLOD students can tap into this energy, build lifelong creative habits, and enter Season 14 ready to learn, perform, and thrive in one of America’s rising arts cities.
